Dear Jacobs School community,

I am writing to share with you the bittersweet news that Dori R. Marshall, MD ’97, will be stepping down from her role as associate dean and director of medical school admissions. Today, she will begin a new journey as chief medical officer (CMO) at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, replacing Stephen J. Turkovich, MD, who was CMO before being named president of the hospital last November. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Marshall on this wonderful career opportunity.

An associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Dr. Marshall has been an integral member of our faculty for nearly two decades, enhancing the reputation and influence of the Department of Psychiatry and the Jacobs School.

As associate dean and director of medical admissions, she has shaped many important and lasting outcomes, including leading the school’s holistic admissions review program which has strengthened our efforts to create a robust and diverse learning environment.

Dr. Marshall has been a member of the medical school’s admissions committee since 2011 and chaired the school’s Faculty Council Committee on Admissions Policy. She has also contributed significantly to the school’s new strategic plan for community engagement, development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and economic development.

Board-certified in psychiatry, Dr. Marshall has also served as the director of inpatient psychiatry at the Erie County Medical Center since 2016 and has been a staff psychiatrist at UBMD Psychiatry since 2006. Her primary focus is working with adolescents and young adults who have needed acute inpatient hospitalization.

As an educator, she has been honored with many awards for her teaching, mentoring, and service, including the 2022 Faculty Award of Excellence for Promoting Inclusion and Cultural Diversity. She also received the 2018 Leonard Tow 2018 Humanism in Medicine Award.

An alumna of the Jacobs School, Dr. Marshall completed her residency at UB, as well. She also earned her undergraduate degree from UB.

Please join me in thanking Dr. Marshall for her many lasting contributions to UB and the Jacobs School and congratulating her on her new position at Oishei.

We are grateful that Dr. Marshall will continue to assist in the transition until a replacement is selected. As that process progresses, we will share the transition plan with the Jacobs School community.

Sincerely,
