Graduation caps thrown in the air.

Today is graduation day for 175 of our medical students at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at University at Buffalo!

What a momentous point in their lives as they walk across the stage to celebrate the end of a long and difficult journey. This also marks the start of the next leg of their voyage as they enter the medical industry and their residency.

There’s no question that these past few years have been challenging, emotional and, at times, exhilarating for our medical students. They leave a legacy of advocacy and resilience, putting the Jacobs School on a different trajectory.

As an academic health center, we have a responsibility to improve the health of our all our patients, colleagues, and communities, no matter their zip code. Today’s graduates, the leaders of tomorrow, will be among those who change how we deliver health care.

They have already done great things. They will go on to do many, many more.

To our students, congratulations on your graduation from medical school today and on entering your next chapter in becoming a physician. This is the start of bigger dreams in your life.

Go forth and put your skills and passions to work. Stay focused on keeping patients healthy, first and foremost, and be ready to care for them when they are sick.

May you carry your True Blue Pride and spirit onward always.

Best wishes to you all,

Allison Brashear, MD, MBA
Vice President for Health Sciences
Dean, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences
