Several States Set to Ease Restrictions May 1, While Others Plan to Extend Them

Nancy H. Nielsen, MD, PhD, senior associate dean for health policy, was quoted in a report on the varied policies among states regarding social distancing restrictions. Some states plan to lift restrictions on May 1. “The worst thing would be to move too fast, causing a second peak of cases that could have been avoided. This is about people’s lives, not just economics,” she said. “Each state is a ‘laboratory’ with unique characteristics, and we will learn what approaches work and which ones create upticks in cases.”
